Shocking Accuracy Plz Help! - 08-02-2010 , 12:26 PM

I bought a Wgp Synergy at christmas and took it to a walk on yesterday and the accuracy was absolutely shocking. Paint was flying out and bending round corners and all sorts. not gettin decent range at-all. Could anyone suggest a decent barrel i could use plz (it is a cocker thread and i'd like to keep the price below £50) preferably one you have used yourself. Thank-you

What happened to you has nothing to do with your barrel - it sounds much more like your paint was not stored correctly and the fill had settled, giving the ball uneven weight distribution and causing it to "wing".

I would check the following things -

Clean the barrel and check there are no build-ups or deposits of dirt/paint etc.
Re-chrono the marker to 280fps with fresh paint (not the same batch as you used at the walk-on) and see what the velocity fluctuations are. (i.e. a sample reading might be 270, 285, 275, 282, 280, 271 which is +/-15, and is acceptable for good long range shooting).

A new barrel will not affect your accuracy to any noticeable degree, where as good paint will make a massive difference - anyone who tells you different is trying to sell you something.

hello
dont think the problem is in the barrel but could be a number of reasons

first off will be check your ball diameter as the better ball fit to barrel then the better flight and distance will be.
are the paintballs old stock or lopsided as this will cause drops and wobbly flight as well
check pressure and chrono to confirm
are you using air or c02..
could even be a bit of light rainwater inside the barrel ( use a sock ) and in effect this will grip the paintball on the way out .
just a few ideas
john

Both your answers are legendary, thank-you! Everyone there was using the same paint as me though! the explanation given by Pinki of it 'winging' fits but surely everyone elses would have done this too as we all given a box of paint each? my gun was probably the cheapest there and was definately the only one with a stock barrel (flash gits! ). Also come to think it was wet and everyone was constantly using a squeegee to dry the barrels...P.s did i say it was my first walk-on...Doh!
Is the barrel fine...you sure...it looks like a threaded bit of metal conduit, does it really make no difference?

It is possible, depending on how the paint has been stored - if you were unlucky enough to have the box left over from the last pallet, but I think we've found the problem:

I think you've just provided us with the information we needed - if everyone else was squeeging their barrels, then they were either breaking paint or there was rain/mist in the air and barrels were getting water inside them from the porting etc.

If the barrel is not dry and free from paint etc. then you will see exactly the effects you describe - it doesn't matter if your gun costs £100 or £2000, a bit of water in the barrel will screw with the accuracy!

Not one iota in terms of accuracy - in fact there was a test done several years ago against many different barrels and the winner was a an overbored piece of PVC tube!!
